Frequently Asked Questions

How does Sponsorship Work?

When you sponsor a child, you help a child who is at risk of growing up in an orphanage, to grow up in a loving family.

Every child in our program has been reunited with their parents, resettled with a foster family, or supported to stay with their parents or extended family.

When you sponsor a child, your donations directly assist your sponsored child and their family, and support a wide range of programs in your sponsored child’s community.

What does my sponsorship provide?

Your monthly sponsorship provides access to education, health care, nutritious food, economic empowerment (microloans, business training and business grants), child protection and emergency support.

How long does sponsorship last?

Child Sponsorship lasts until a child is 18 years old. In some special circumstances, we may ask sponsors to extended their sponsorship (i.e. to help a child complete their education).

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

Child Sponsorship costs $39 a month, about a dollar a day.

Will my sponsorship contributions go directly to one child?

Sponsored children do not receive direct cash benefits. They and their families receive support primarily in the form of services and programs – such as access to education, medical care and economic empowerment opportunities.

How can I track my sponsored child’s progress?

When you become a child sponsor, you will receive a welcome package introducing you to your sponsored child. Each year you will receive an updated photo of your sponsored child and a progress report.

Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes. Donations of $10 and more are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Tax receipts are issued in February for the previous calendar year.

Can I communicate with my sponsored child?

We do not have a letter writing or gift giving program for sponsors and sponsored children. This keeps our administrative costs low and ensures our program is equal and fair to all children.
